No Cost Services for Our Senior Neighbors

	Faith in Action of McHenry County works with seniors of our community who live at home to assist them and their families in maintaining their independence, dignity and quality of life. Whether it is with a ride to the doctor, help with some light housekeeping, or a friendly visit,our volunteers provide services to seniors in need of assistance at no cost.

We are a 2009 Beverly Foundation Star Award recipient, recognized as one of the "best of the best" senior transportation services in America.

Kathy R. was nominated by one of our transportation clerks. She has been with the organization since 2007 and has worn many hats along the way including front desk reception, housekeeping and yard work. Lately, Kathy has been offering her service in the transportation department, making 3-4 trips each week. She initially heard of the volunteer opportunity at her church and thought to herself, “Oh, I could definitely help someone”. She describes her volunteer experience as just the opposite as she believes she is the one being helped by the sharing of life experience, perspective and the process of gracefully aging shown to her by the individuals she meets through Faith in Action. Kathy genuinely loves hearing about each person’s journey and has attributed this to the longevity of her volunteer placement with Faith in Action. Her personal goals in life are expressed by three meaningful stones placed on her dressing table; each one representing a value she cherishes and hopes to express to the people she meets. Gratitude, joy and patience are the reminders she takes with her as she begins each new day.
